How the Octag Ai app handles your information.
Octag Ai is a photo search app for iPhone and Android, made by Octag AI LLC. You upload photos or videos, and the app's AI looks for public web pages and social media profiles that match them. Your account
You sign in with your phone number or with Apple. We keep your phone number or email address and a user ID. With Apple you can hide your email; Apple then gives us a private relay address that forwards to you. In Settings › Account Info you can also add your first and last name, gender and age range; each is optional. We also keep your plan (free or Pro), your upload credits, your notification setting and when you joined.
Photos and videos you upload
You can upload up to 3 photos or videos at a time, each under 50 MB. They are stored on our servers at Google Cloud, and the app's AI compares them with images on the public web using image search services to find matching pages and profiles. The results (the tags in My Gallery and the reports in My Messages) stay in your account until you delete it. The files you upload are deleted from our storage automatically 1 day after you upload them, and the small previews in My Gallery after 90 days.
Messages
Reports and replies arrive in My Messages, and you can write back there. We keep those messages in your account and read yours to answer you.
Purchases
Octag Ai Pro and upload credits are paid through Apple or Google Play. They handle the payment, and we never see your card. We receive what you bought, its transaction ID and when a subscription ends, so the app can unlock it.
Ads
The free version can show ads from Google AdMob. On iPhone, the app asks whether it may track you. If you allow it, AdMob may use your device's advertising identifier to show ads that match your interests; if you don't, AdMob can't use that identifier. Pro removes the ads. Google's own privacy policy covers what AdMob does with this data.
Notifications
If you allow notifications, we keep your device's push token (from Google's Firebase Cloud Messaging) to tell you when results or replies are ready. Turn them off in Settings › Notifications Settings.
How the app is used
We use Google's Firebase Analytics to count how the app is used, such as which screens are opened, with an identifier for your device. Apple and Google Play also give us crash reports that don't include your name, email or phone number.
Who else handles it
Google (Firebase and Google Cloud) stores and processes the data for us, image search services receive the photos you search with, Google AdMob shows the ads, and Apple and Google Play handle Sign in with Apple and payments. We don't sell your photos, your messages or your account details.
Seeing, changing and deleting
You can see and change your details in Settings › Account Info. To get a copy of what we keep about you, email hello@octagai.com.
To delete your account in the iPhone app, open Settings › Account Info › Delete Account. That erases your account, photos and messages. You can also email us from your account's email address, or with the phone number you sign in with, and we delete it within 30 days. Step by step: Delete your account.
